Blantyre is the oldest European settlement in Malawi. It is now known as the commercial capital of Malawi. Taxi services are available at the hotel’s own taxi rank. Blantyre’s international airport at Chileka is a comfortable 10km, 15 minutes, away. Hotel transport may also be provided by prior arrangement at a nominal fee.





A total of 130 rooms include 1 Presidential Suite, 8 Executive Suites, 4  Suites,  1 Studio, 24 Executive Deluxe and 92 Deluxe. The executive floor has its own private lounge.




Visit Picasso’s Restaurant for the best Malawi buffet breakfasts, lunches and dinners.  An la carte menu with local and international cuisine is also available throughout the day and a business lunch is served five days a week. The formal Pablo’s Bar is famous for its expertly mixed cocktails and excellent service in a cosmopolitan ambience. At the Sportsman’s Bar authentic Malawian hospitality in a more relaxed atmosphere is complemented by a local band Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. Fast snacks and satellite television are available.

There are two conference rooms. The Main (seating capacity 400 delegates) and Board room (capacity 10-15) which caters for seminars, receptions, board meetings, weddings, product launches, workshops, etc. Equipment is available.
Sunbird Mount Soche is famous for outdoor and evening weddings, set in the lush and beautifully landscaped tropical gardens overlooking the pool.




The hotel has a beautiful swimming pool surrounded by tropical gardens, while golf, hockey, tennis, squash, volleyball, bowling and a fitness centre is available nearby.




Street vendors offer a multitude of traditional arts and crafts from neat purpose-built stalls less than three minutes walk from the hotel.


La Caverna art gallery at Old Manager’s House (or Mandala House, the oldest building in Malawi) is now home to an unbelievable reading library of Africana books, collected by the Historical Society of Malawi. They also stock an eye-opening range of high-quality African art, sculpture, carvings, books and handicraft, indeed anything the visitor might want as a souvenir or memento of Malawi.


The most popular excursion arranged by the hotel is just over an hour away to the 2200m, 7000ft Zomba plateau where lunch may be enjoyed on the cool terraces of Sunbird Ku Chawe, sitting high above the country’s first capital.


The splendid greenery of the Thyolo and Mulanje tea estates are also about an hour away on a lovely new scenic road through scenery more reminiscent of Scotland than Africa. Mulanje Mountain, a World Heritage Site, now promoted as the Island in the Sky by the Mulanje Conservation Trust offers unparalleled opportunities for hiking and climbing on Central Africa’s highest peaks.


The nearest Parks and Reserves are Lengwe National Park, northernmost home of the shy nyala, just an hour away down the Chikwawa escarpment road and through the sugar estsates at Nchalo. Closer still is the newly revitalized Majete Wildlife Reserves where elephants, lions and other large species have recently been re-introduced.
