Welcome to The Makokola Retreat. Brilliantly green gardens reveal spacious beach villas and rooms perched along the shores of Southern Lake Malawi. We provide gracious service in an unmatched experience in Malawi. This showpiece property captures the essence of African design, culture and tradition. While staying with us, fill every moment with a sense of natural connection in our wonderful retreat.
The Retreat boasts 47 rooms, and our hand built villas blend ethno chic with all that is traditional in Malawi. All the comforts you would expect during your getaway are here, accentuated by locally sourced wooden beams and traditional artwork beneath a thatched roof. The Malawian theme is carried through the décor, with handcrafted furniture, typical artifacts and local fabrics in rich, vivid colors.
Our rooms are just a few steps from the beach, yet designed with seclusion in mind. On The Makokola Retreat grounds, pathways lead you to accommodations nestled in the midst of magical natural gardens.
The Makokola Retreat is also excited to announce that a new extension is in the process of being finished; adding 22 luxury lake suites and 1 sunset villa to the hotel. Thereby, increasing our rooms to a total of 70. These rooms will be opening this year in August 2018 and will boast a private quiet pool, resident guests only bar, gym. All rooms will have air conditioners, private terrace/balcony area with spectacular views over Lake Malawi. In the coming months we will release more room features, rates, and photos of our new luxury addition to the Retreat.
Guests can either fly for 30 minutes into Makokola’ s own Aerodrome or drive for 3-4 hours from the two International Airports, Blantyre or Lilongwe. International Charter or Private Flights can fly directly into The Makokola Retreat and clear Customs and Immigration at the Hotel.
The electronic equipment is state of the art with Bose speakers and Shure Microphones to provide clear as day sound. Full High Definition Projectors are found in each conference room, along with 50-inch flat screen TV’s in each board room.

I enjoyed my stay at the Makokola Retreat…..the new rooms are way beautiful and the view is just perfect, I cant even begin to brag about their new swimming pool, this place is value for money and I would like to visit again soon….thank you Travel Malawi Guide for the insight???
